THE DEBATE: TO CHANGE THE SOCIETY’S NAME OR NOT?

There will be two short presentations, one "for" and one "against" the change of name made by Professor Nikos Donos and Dr Isobel Madden respectively. A summary of their arguments follows.

Bernie Kieser
09.09.2009 NewsIt is with deep regret and sadness that I have to announce the sad loss of Bernie Kieser who died peacefully in his sleep on 7/9/09. Bernie had fought cancer over the last year and as usual had defied all predictions. Many of you will know Bernie as a very active member of the Society who last presented his provocative thoughts at the Spring Meeting in Cambridge 2008. He was a former President (1989-1990) and one of our Honorary Members (2001). I had the privilege of sharing an office with Bernie for many years at the Eastman and learnt a huge amount from him. Many of the students passing through his hands have benefited similarly from his excellent teaching and questioning approach. He will be sadly missed but not forgotten. Anne Hallowes is made an Emeritus Member of the BSP
31.03.2009 NewsDuring the Spring Conference meeting in Sheffield Gareth Griffiths, made a surprise announcement that Anne Hallowes was to be made an Emeritus Member of the BSP. Anne was deeply moved by this. This was a fantastic announcement and a real statement of deserved recognition for all the hard work Anne has put in serving the BSP for the last 20 years. Bryan Wade
31.01.2009 NewsMembers will be very sorry to learn of the death of Bryan Wade on 27 January 2009. Bryan Wade was Honorary Secretary from 1954 to 1956 and President in 1959/60 and 1984/85 - one of the few people to hold this office twice. He was made an Honorary Member in 1989.
