GDC announces appointment of new Chair and Council Member
The GDC have today announced the appointments of their new Chair, Baron Harris of Haringey (Lord Toby Harris) and Council Member, Angie Heilmann MBE. They will take up these appointments on 1 October 2021, which have been made following a competitive recruitment process, and approval by the Privy Council.
Lord Toby Harris brings to the GDC 40 years of non-executive experience, including as Chair of several public sector bodies. He has a strong focus on the interests of patients and the public, and the GDC are delighted to have a Chair with such a breadth of knowledge and skills to lead the Council, in what continue to be challenging times for patients and the professions.
Angie Heilmann MBE, who as a registered dental nurse and educator, has over 30 years’ experience in the dental sector in both clinical and academic roles. Angie Heilmann has held several non-executive positions, including President of the British Association of Dental Nurses, and Chair of the Local Dental Education Committee at Luton and Dunstable Hospital. She was awarded her MBE for Services to Dental Nursing in 2012.
The new Chair and Council Member will fill the places of our outgoing Chair, Dr William Moyes, and Council Member, Catherine Brady, when they leave office at the end of September. The GDC wishes to thank them for their commitment and contributions to their work to secure public safety and maintain public confidence.
