EFP Eminence in Periodontology Award
We are delighted to announce that Professor Iain Chapple has been granted the Eminence in Periodontology Award in recognition of his outstanding service to the EFP and contributions to the understanding of the field of periodontology and the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases.
Professor Chapple has spent his life furthering the profession of dentistry for oral healthcare professionals, patients and the public. His long career in dentistry has shown him as a dedicated and international academic in the field of periodontal research, publishing over 200 peer reviewed papers and being awarded the highest honours of Special Citation Award, American Academy of Periodontology 2018; Distinguished Scientist in Periodontal Research Award; International Association for Dental Research 2018; Lilian Lindsay Prize Lecture Award from the British Dental Association 2016, Embury Lecture British Society of Oral & Dental Research 2013 and Royal College of Surgeons of England Charles Tomes Medal & Charles Tomes Prize 2011. There is no greater testament to Iain’s success and commitment to the profession.
Nationally, Iain was the Treasurer of the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (BSP) 1998-2004, growing its financial reserves significantly. As President of the BSP (2014-2015) he led a team that produced our first strategic plan and established an “Early Career Group” of young graduates.
Internationally, Iain was elected President of the Periodontal Research Group of International Association for Dental Research (IADR) 2007-2008 and then became Group Program Chairman, responsible for the annual scientific program in this specialty (2011-2015). Iain has greatly contributed to the development of the EFP through his participation on the Executive Committee. In addition to standing as Secretary General (2016-2019), Iain was responsible for aiding the strategic growth of the Federation.
Professor Chapple is an altruistic, hardworking and selfless individual, who goes above and beyond at every opportunity to further dentistry. Congratulations Iain - you are an inspiration to our profession and richly deserving of this prestigious award!
