Changes to BSP Constitution at AGM 2006
A number of small changes were agreed to the Society's Constitution at the AGM on 22nd September 2006.
Article 3, Section 3 - this has been changed to read:
"Full members shall have the right to vote and be unlimited in number. Members must be registered in the Medical or Dentists Register or hold such other qualification as Council approve or be members of an affiliated Society"
This removes confusion about the membership status of undergraduate members.
Article 4, Section 1 (i) previously referred to those who may have associate status as including "A member of another Society who receive the Journal of Clinical Periodontology through that Society."
This has been changed to: "A member of another Society affiliated with the European Federation of Periodontology who receive the Journal of Clinical Periodontology through that Society."
Finally, Article 7 Section 1 previously stated:
"The authority of the Society will be vested in a Council consisting of the Officers of the Society, a representative each of the Teachers' Section, the Dental Practitioners' Section and four Other Members of the Society elected by ballot at the Annual General Meeting. At least two members of the Council should normally reside outside London and the Home Counties."
We are proposing to investigate the use of electronic voting for Council from next year onwards, and this had to be approved at this AGM so that we could use it in the run up to next year's AGM. Council have agreed to this, but it required a change in the constitution. As the result the following change was approved at the AGM:
"The authority of the Society will be vested in a Council consisting of the Officers of the Society, a representative each of the Teachers' Section, the Dental Practitioners' Section and four Other Members of the Society elected by ballot at, or in the two weeks preceding, the Annual General Meeting. At least two members of the Council should normally reside outside London and the Home Counties."
The modified version of the Constitution will soon be available on the website
