AAP Guidance on Bisphosphonates

The American Academy of Periodontology have released a statement on issues for patients taking bisphosphonate drugs (Aredia and Zometa, by Novartis Pharmaceuticals). These may be taken for osteoporosis and to help manage cancer spreading to bone.This follows statements by the US FDA regarding risks of osteonecrosis of the jaw in these patients.
