A note from our President…

BSP continue to be busier than ever, working behind the scenes and meeting with key stakeholders to present the views of our membership and support the wider dental profession.

You will recall that the EFP published the “Treatment of Stage I-III Periodontitis – The EFP S3 Level Clinical Practice Guideline” in May 2020 and the BSP rapidly developed a UK version of the document, to ensure compatibility with our UK healthcare system. The BSP is now taking on the challenge of adoloping the EFP S3 Stage IV Perio Treatment Guidelines. (“Adolop” simply means that we will discuss the guidelines and adopt, modify or develop them as we see fit, to ensure they are appropriate for us to share with UK dental professionals (dentists, hygienists, therapists), patients and the public.)

We intend to follow the same process as we did last time, by creating four working groups to focus on the systematic reviews in the publication. Following these discussions, we aim to produce evidence-based guidance for a UK Sequence for the Treatment of Periodontitis Stage IV. As always, we will support our members with educational webinars and resources, to ensure a full understanding and application of the new guidance.
