A Warm Welcome to 2025 from the BSP President…
Dear friends,
On behalf of the BSP Council and myself, it is with immense honour and pleasure that I welcome you to what promises to be an extraordinary year ahead for the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. Serving as your President of this prestigious Society in 2025 is not only a privilege but also a responsibility that I embrace with great enthusiasm and dedication. My goal is to serve you, our members, to the best of my ability, advancing the fields of periodontology and implant dentistry in the UK and beyond.
The BSP remains steadfast in its mission to provide strong leadership in promoting periodontology and implant dentistry, with a focus on periodontal and peri-implant health. These efforts are deeply connected to improving oral and general health and well-being through education, evidence-based practice, and innovation. Ultimately, our work aims to raise public awareness and influence national health policy positively, ensuring that our expertise makes a tangible difference in people’s lives.
As a Society, we are proud to serve as a vital resource for healthcare professionals, bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and day-to-day clinical practice. Supporting our members and engaging with our stakeholders remains central to our efforts, and we are truly grateful to our partners for their continued support in helping us achieve our vision.
Looking ahead, 2025 is already shaping up to be an exciting and productive year. Among our initiatives, we have embarked on a groundbreaking global clinical practice guideline for managing dentine hypersensitivity. A team of dedicated reviewers are hard at work on systematic reviews, culminating in a consensus meeting this September. These guidelines will be published in early 2026, supported by webinars and a global debate to amplify their impact, made possible by our valued partner sponsors.
In addition to this, I am delighted to announce my BSP Presidential Conference, which will take place in the vibrant city of Edinburgh at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. The Conference will be followed by a black-tie dinner at the magnificent Signet Library.
On Thursday 27 November we have BSP masterclasses, sponsored workshops, a symposium and a joint event with the BSODR. I encourage you to book early, as spaces are limited and will be in high demand.
In the spirit of teamwork, we have organised a joint Conference with the BSDHT on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 November. There will be 3 parallel streams: surgical, a journey through perio and BSDHT workshops. Something for everyone! With global experts, Otto Zuhr, Iain Chapple, Istvan Urban, and Anton Sculean to name a few, taking the stage, this will be an unmissable experience.
Edinburgh, with its historic charm, iconic Royal Mile, and renowned whisky, offers the perfect backdrop for these events. I encourage you to take the time to explore this wonderful city during your visit. A BIG thank you goes to Paula Dunn for her tireless work behind the scenes, ensuring these events are seamlessly organised and successful.
As I embark on this journey as BSP President for 2025, I feel both privileged and inspired. Together, let us continue to strengthen our Society, expand its reach, and make a lasting impact in our field. Here’s to a great year ahead!
Warmest regards,
Professor Nicola West
