A note from our President…
It’s always a mistake to say that you think that summer is arriving, as I did in last month’s newsletter, because since then we seem to have had very inclement and unseasonably cold weather. As an example, several members of the BSP Team were caught in torrential rain (described as ‘biblical’) in London last week when attending the meeting we held to develop the BSP Strategic Plan for the next 5 years. We didn’t let the rain dampen our enthusiasm, however, and had a wonderfully positive and uplifting meeting as we discussed plans for the development of the Society over the coming years. We will be working on this document with the aim to share it with the whole BSP Membership and post it on our website by the end of this year. Many thanks to all those who were involved in a very exciting day.
I would also like to thank all those members of the Society who joined our online AGM recently. We had a great turn-out and several important actions were taken, not least of which was the confirmation of the BSP Officers for the next couple of years. Professor Nicola West will be BSP President for 2025, followed by Dr Paul Baker in 2026 and then Professor Shauna Culshaw in 2027. Furthermore, Professor Wendy Turner will complete her term of office as Honorary Secretary at the end of 2024 and will be replaced in this important role by Professor Luigi Nibali. I would like to convey my sincere thanks to all those colleagues whose leadership and dedication in support of the BSP keeps the Society running so successfully.
Lastly, please don’t forget the early-bird deadline for the BSP conference in Newcastle – it is 31 July. There is still time to take advantage of the reduced registration rate, but please don’t delay as tickets are selling fast!
