A note from our President…

This month saw the BSP in attendance at the British Dental Conference & Dentistry Show in Birmingham. This was a fantastic event, with huge numbers of exhibitors, an enormous trade show, and thousands of delegates. There was a real buzz in the air, and plenty of excitement with all members of the dental team represented, and all eager to try out the latest technological innovations from the companies.

The BSP stand was extremely popular, and there was never a quiet moment. Paula Dunn (Executive General Manager) and Jo Brown (Assistant Manager) did a brilliant job engaging with all the delegates who visited us. One thing that really struck me was the value that was placed on the BSP publications and resources by all those who visited the stand. We gave out enormous quantities of the excellent laminated Classification and BPE flowcharts, and everyone who visited the stand was already familiar with them. To me, this indicates the positive influence that the BSP is having for the dental profession and the important role we play in education and providing professional resources. The usual question was not “Can I have one of these?” but “How many can I have?” with delegates saying they wanted to put the guidance flowcharts on the wall in every surgery in their practice. It was clear that the dental profession does hold the BSP in very high regard.

I also had the opportunity to meet with our wonderful colleagues from the BSDHT (British Society of Dental Hygiene & Therapy) and the BADT (British Association of Dental Therapists), and it was great to be able to catch up informally with these excellent organisations. I was pleased to have been able to deliver a lecture on Diabetes and Periodontitis, and I would like to very much thank Dr Devan Raindi for his excellent presentation on Treatment of Stage IV Periodontitis - it was standing-room only as the crowds flocked into his packed lecture area!

Lastly, I would like to remind everyone that tickets for the BSP Annual Conference in Newcastle (9-11 October 2024) are selling fast, and the early-bird rate finishes on 31 July. Don’t leave it too late!
