We currently find ourselves in an unprecedented situation with the world battling an outbreak of COVID-19. The World Health Organization declared a global pandemic on March 11 and at the point of writing this many people have sadly been affected worldwide.

The EFP has published a video message about the coronavirus situation from its Italy-based president Filippo Graziani.

The chief dental officers for England, Scotland and Wales have put forward advice in response to the growing threat of coronavirus. The CDO for England, Sara Hurley, the CDO for Wales, Colette Bridgman, and the CDO for Scotland, Tom Ferris, have offered new guidelines for NHS dental practices. This is in light of the UK moving into the ‘delay’ phase of its COVID-19 response.

The recent Perio Master Clinic 2020 held on 6-7 March at the Royal Dublin Society in Dublin was a huge success. The conference unveiled the latest advances made in periodontal regeneration, which is widely seen as the “holy grail” in periodontal and peri-implant therapy as it is the key in helping to preserve the dentition healthy and functional for the patient’s whole lifetime.

This year, the BSP joins this worldwide initiative again to raise awareness of the importance of gum health with the UK public. More than 40 countries are joining Gum Health Day 2020 – from Europe, the Americas, Africa, Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region

It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of February. It has been a very busy start to the year at BSP. We have been updating membership records and working hard to update the resources on our new website, which will go live later this year. In addition to our Educational Events programme for 2020, we are already starting to plan our Conferences for 2021 and 2022.

Thank you to all our members who have paid their subscription fees for 2020 by direct debit, online payment or bank transfer. Final reminders have been sent out to members who have not yet paid their subscription fees this year. In accordance with the terms of the Constitution, memberships will be terminated if subscriptions are not paid by the 28th February.
