Undergraduate students from Kings College London will present this By Students, For Students webinar.
BSP is keen to encourage the educational practices of peer learning in which students interact with each other to develop their understanding and knowledge of periodontology.
The webinar is free for members, non-member charges are £20 Hygienist/Therapist, £30 Dentist.
Bookings will close at midday on Monday 2 September 2024.
Registering instructions will be sent out on Monday 2 September 2024, as you need to register with Zoom (a quick and simple process). After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar on the evening.
Only the first 500 participants to log in on the evening will be able to participate in the live event.
However, booked participants will be able to view the webinar after the event on the BSP website. You will be notified when the recorded presentation is available for viewing.
1.5 hours CPD is offered to all delegates who have booked and viewed the webinar. Bookings must have been made through the BSP website. Non-members will need their booking reference number to obtain CPD. Evaluation form and CPD certificates will be available after the event on the website.
Smoking is known to be a common factor involved with periodontal disease and this is covered extensively in undergraduate education.
E-cigarette smoking or vaping is a novel method of consuming nicotine and therefore is an area of limited coverage. The aim of this presentation is to review the current literature and guidelines related to vaping so that students can provide better advice to their patients at university and in their careers.
Review current research on the effects of vaping on periodontal health and periodontal treatment
Compare vaping to conventional smoking
Understand the aetiology of the effects of smoking and vaping on periodontal disease
Highlight any other related factors
Clarify the current UK guidelines regarding vaping and smoking
Highlight the need for further research
Be able to compare vaping to conventional smoking in relation to periodontal health
Be able to understand and implement current UK guidelines in relation to vaping
Be able to understand mechanisms of how smoking and vaping may affect the periodontium
